Seattle, WA (PRWEB) September 17, 2013
SoundCon, LLC announced today that GameSoundCon 2013 is doubling in size and is moving to Los Angeles, California. Featuring sessions, panel discussions and hands-on workshops with some of the game industrys leading composers, sound designers and audio directors, GameSoundCon will take place on November 3-4, 2013 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Im very excited to see GameSoundCon continue growing in 2013, said Brian Schmidt, Executive Director of GameSoundCon. Our expansion this year allows us to provide great content for both the aspiring and seasoned game music composer or sound designer. Moving to Los Angeles puts GameSoundCon in one of the worlds hotbeds for music production and sound design.
The newly expanded format comprises four concurrent session tracks. Game Audio Essentials features presentations and panels on essential topics in game audio, specifically designed for professional composers and sound designers who want to work in video games. Game Audio Pro features talks and roundtables for the more seasoned game audio professional, while separate sessions providing Hands-on FMOD Studio training and Hands-on WWise training allow attendees to bring their laptops and receive hands-on training on creating interactive music and sound effects using the industrys leading game audio design tools.
The 2-day conference features in depth sessions and masterclasses from some of the top names in game audio including Paul Lipson (Audio Director, Microsoft Studios), Jack Wall (Call of Duty 2), Jason Hayes (World of Warcraft), Winifred Philips (Assassins Creed 3: Liberation, Little Big Planet 2), Michael Csurics (Bioshock 2), Scott Selfon (Xbox Advanced Technology Group) and others.
GameSoundCon's Keynote Address will be given by Grammy-nominated composer, Austin Wintory. Austin made history in 2012 when his soundtrack for the video game Journey was the first video game soundtrack to be nominated for a GRAMMY Award in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category. Austins soundtrack went head to head against film soundtracks by legendary composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore.
Im thrilled to have Austin provide our keynote this year, said Brian Schmidt, Executive Director of GameSoundCon. The haunting beauty of the Journey score turned a lot of heads, including those at the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, the organization that presents the Grammy awards. Were looking forward to having Austin provide our inspirational Keynote Address at our ninth GameSoundCon in Los Angeles in November.
In addition to his work on Journey, Austin has composed for games such as flOw, Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, Monaco, and the upcoming, highly anticipated game, The Banner Saga. Among his numerous other awards are the Spike TV VGAs Best Original Score and Best song in a Game awards, multiple IGN, and Game Audio Network Guild awards as well as the 2013 British Academy Awards for both Games/Original Music and Games/Outstanding Achievement in Audio.
