TV commercials drive me nuts! By David Hague

TV commercials drive me nuts! Especially those shown in the country, where it is assumed every single person who is watching is a "down-on-the-farm-country-boy" (or lassie).  As such, many ads have the poor farmer doing something stupid (using string to tie a gate as against the "new gate locker magico!", or is buying new boots every other day - "Step by step, brick by brick, you and your boots built this country".

And I swear there are 14, zillion brands of sheep dip and animal sprays; which since there are 14 zillion and 1 type of bugs, bities and nasties always means you need one more backpack squirter.

Non-farming ads are suss too. Real estate floggers all have cowboy hats on; car yard principals insist on doing their own ads to camera - oh sorry forgot, that happens in the city too - it should be outlawed and shopkeepers are all oh, so friendly and country-fied - "some even know my name!" Gush.

The jingles are simply horrible as well. "(Name deleted) is part of your lifestyle, and your lifestyle is a part of (name deleted)". No it's not. And never will be. Nor will (name deleted) ever be "MY friend in Real Estate." That's an oxymoron that is.
Finally, I swear the production companies making these ads share a single royalty free music CD that's probably entitled "Wannabe guitar heroes that can play really, really fast but have no talent." And there are only three tracks on it. And the third one is a montage of the first two played backwards.

There are a lot of talented people who live outside the capitals, have decent studios and facilities and importantly, a sense of style and quality. Can they please be utilised to make your TV commercials, radio ads, trailers, promos and documentaries, and leave this trashy stuff back in 1964 whence it came?
